ABOUT THE BUILDER

Joshua Muir has ridden bicycles and worked in bike shops as a mechanic since he was a teenager. His primary experience in the cycling industry comes from starting and working for the past 16 years in collectively run bike shops that offer low-income, self-service bicycle repair.

Along with caring for and using the old things of our world, Joshua has a love for creation: building new things. After years as a carpenter and hobbyist brazier, he began designing and building bicycle frames. The result is Frances, his frame-building business, established in 2006. Joshua produces 12 to 15 client-ordered frame sets per year. His favorite bicycle to build is the tourist: light, capable, outfitted. In addition to traditional frameset designs, he also builds a few innovative cargo designs.
